End of an Era

A fine farewell to "Blossom" and her prodigy. Eleven years ago I brought home Blossom as a lamb on her mother "Anna" from Hancock Shaker Village. One a kind, she was Bluefaced and Cotswold cross ewe lamb, tail in tack, white glistening, gorgeous, long, lustrous, curly, irresistable fleece. I never sold one of them in eleven years. I loved her wool, I handspun it, I wove with it, I knitted with it. I used the washed long locks for creative projects. I still  have a couple fleeces to wash and use. You might ask, Why did you send her off? Well, it sure wasn't easy. She was retired, not having been bred this last season. She had a beautiful ewe lamb last year "Moonflower" that I had anticipated keeping. But in a turn of events I found a home for her and "Luna" and "Mt. Blue" and "Palmolive".. all natural colored ewes, they moved to Lilac Hill Farm in Unadilla, NY. They went to a No Kill, No Breeding Farm to live their blessed lives on a lush happy pasture 123 acres big. I could never offer such a well deserved situation. Though it's a difficult decision to give up a whole unique line of longwool breeding, I do feel it was a good choice for the sheep.
